Love One Another --February 7th

This week started off great with us running a blood drive here in Hood river and then zone conference the next day! So the first of the week was crazy but awesome! Zone conferences are exactly what you need as a missionary sometimes, it is so inspiring and so awesome to get together and see the other missionaries and feel so hyped to do the work ! We had a really great class on Jesus Christ being the center of this work and the center of our lives and I can truly say life is so much better when you include him every step of the way! He loves us so much and helps us no matter what we are going through.  I think we truly begin to recognize that when we lean on him and trust in him and his atonement!

We had lots of the same old same old this week haha lots and lots of hours of door knocking and lots of canceled lessons. But we did have some pretty awesome miracles ! There is one guy Isidro that we have been teaching English to and we usually start with a scripture and a prayer and for some reason I felt like we should use a doctrine and covenants one which we usually don't start new people off with because they've never heard of it. But we ended up using that scripture and he had tons of questions about where the book came from which led to Joseph Smith and the restoration and we ended up teaching an awesome lesson and never even got to English! He had so many questions that we got to help answer and really wanted to know the truth so hopefully we will be able to help him continue on this path of finding the truth! He is awesome!

One thing I've been thinking about lately is just having Christlike love. We had an awesome visit with one of the Spanish ladies in our ward this week and I literally could understand so that was a miracle!

But, she was talking a lot about how it is hard sometimes to feel a part of the ward family because she's one the few Spanish speakers in our ward and not many people try to reach out to be friends with her because her English is very limited and it makes her so sad. Then at church on Sunday a lot of people talked in their testimonies about how lonely it feels sometimes as a member of the church and especially the ones that have a language barrier or look different or come from different situations than we are and how sometimes they don't feel accepted or loved because of that. But they all talked about how a smile, or a wave, or a small act of kindness means the world to them because the language of Christlike love is universal. It truly made me think about how important that is! Loving God and loving our neighbor are the 2 great commandments and are often so overlooked! But it truly can make a big impact on people's lives and change the way they feel when they can tell we love them as Christ does. It is so easy to fall into the worldly ways of judgement, cliques and gossip but I invite you all to look outside yourself this week, become as Christ is! I love this reminder from my favorite primary song

“Love one another as Jesus loves you. Try to show kindness in all that you do.  Be gentle and loving in deed and in thought, For these are the things Jesus taught."

I can truly promise that as we love our neighbors and show kindness in all that we do that we will truly make an impact on those around us and help their lights shine brighter! So, try it this week! Find ways to serve in small ways, try to be less judgmental, smile at strangers, text the person you've been thinking about, talk to someone new at church! I promise as you do that you will find true joy and become closer to our loving Savior, Jesus Christ!

I love you all so much and am so grateful for your Christlike love in my life!

They Ghostin'--January 31st

Hey Hey!

Happy Monday, my personal favorite day of the week! I don't have anything too crazy exciting to talk about but that's how it goes sometimes!

Last week we went on a "nature walk" as a district for pday and it was amazing! It truly is so beautiful here! It just blows my mind to see all of God's creations, he created them all just for us because he loves us. Sometimes it's those small tender mercies that remind me that God is there and he does love me. Whether it is the sun shining on a rainy Oregon day, a text from someone you love, finding the sock you've been missing for weeks, or waking up every morning. Those are all blessings from our loving Heavenly Father! I feel like every contact or lesson we ever teach we always talk about how much God loves us and how powerful that is! He loved us so much he sent his beloved son to suffer, bleed, and die for us ! Because he loves us so much and he wants us to live with him again! It truly is incredible how perfect his love is for us! So I challenge you all this week to find God in the details and express gratitude for all the little things! I promise as you do that you will find true joy and happiness in your life :)

Now that my impromptu rant is done I'll tell ya a little bit about this week! We got ghosted by like everyone we are teaching so that was a knife to the heart but it's all good! Because we were able to find more people to talk to that we wouldn't have found without our lessons falling through! Spanish is still wayyy hard for me but I am trying to remind myself I've only been speaking Spanish in the field for 2 weeks haha  Lets just say I pray a lot for the gift of tongues!  Hopefully one day it won't sound equivalent to white noise when people start telling me long stories lol

We did have some awesome online lessons this week which is fun! English classes are my favorite because they are so proud of themselves when they master a word and it's like looking in a mirror haha! Hopefully we will be able to keep finding people to teach and get in contact with all the people that are trying to ghost us right now!

Anyways, I love you all so much and I hope you have an amazing week! Never forget your divine potential and remember that God is in the details!

God's Beautiful Creations

Kissing On A Mission- January 24th

Long time no see ! Sorry you didn't get an email last week hahaha and I appreciate you all checking up on me making sure I'm still alive! Sometimes the weeks are just hard and you don't wanna write about it lol But hey! This week really confirmed that after the trial of your faith, miracles really do happen if you put in hard work and pray literally non stop!

I'm just gonna try to summarize the past couple weeks up for you guys! So me and my new awesome companion Sis Altamirano got doubled into the Spanish area here which was overwhelming to say the least haha. It was hard because I was SO excited to be finally speaking Spanish and just try to relearn what I learned in the mtc and get some experience but then we get here with nothing to do but knock and Facebook find. Which when you wake up at 6:30 and think wow, I have to try to find people until 9 pm, it's kinda rough.

So, I did what I have learned to rely on a lot more on my mission, I prayed. I prayed my guts out, literally all the time non stop everywhere we went, just begging and pleading for help to keep going and to not hate my life and to have people to teach. And it didn't happen all at once but over time SO many miracles happened! We found 5 people this week to teach!! Literally every single one of those people was an answer to a prayer and I hope that we can be an answer to theirs! We had some awesome experiences and it truly made me remember that God does answer prayers and is looking out for us and has his hand in all things!

We met the cutest abuelita last week who when we knocked just let us straight in and sat us down for dinner! It was the strangest thing haha I loved it ! In the span of 30 seconds, I could say the only thing I can, Hola como está? Next thing I know I'm sitting down with frijoles, tortillas and the most bomb, very spicy salsa. It was literally the best experience ever and I just left that house laughing so hard and so grateful for that cute abuelita!

Then we met some awesome guy named Jose! He is so cute and so generous. It makes me sad because he can't read and he doesn't have a phone so he hasn't talked to any friends or family since they all moved away. But he had to stay and be the only man that didn't go back to Mexico for the winter that works at this orchard since he has to support his family. It's so inspiring to hear stories like that and remind me how blessed I really am.

Oh! Another bonus of this week, I got to be a farmer! My whole district got together and worked at a farm and helped this lady move a whole bunch of hay into her barn. We had a whole system set up with all the missionaries and we just got the job done. It was so fun and we had a blast ! Plus she bought us all lunch which was so sweet! Considering becoming a farmer as a career now hahaha ps I love goats 🐐 ft my first kiss

Definitely a week of miracles but missionary work is still hard ! Props to all the people who are on missions or have been on a mission! Definitely not for the faint of heart, but I have already seen so many blessings and I know it is worth it! Thanks so much for all your love, prayers, and emails! It truly keeps me going during the hard weeks!

Love you all with my whole soul and somehow God loves you more!

Transfers-January 5th

Long time no see! I have been super busy around here and totally did not have time to write an email last week lol But now I am back!

These past couple weeks have been interesting for sure haha! Last week I went on my first ever exchange so I went to Goldendale with Hermana Statham and it was awesome! Their area is popping off for sure haha! They are teaching so many people and we were able to teach a few lessons and one even came to church! It was very interesting going to another area to see how missionary work is so different even in the same mission! I learned so much from her and her Spanish is so good! We had a blast together and luckily for us we got snowed in so we got to stay there for like 3 extra days haha so that was very interesting! Basically, Hood River got over 2 feet of snow overnight and the highway got shut down so we were all stuck at home! Which honestly, was not too bad! It came at a very good time because our whole mission was on a traditional finding fast, which just means that we were Facebook missionaries this week!

Let me tell ya, Facebook finding is extremely strange. It is everything my mom told me to never do haha, talking to strangers on the internet. I am part of pretty much every old woman Facebook group to have ever existed. Then you just message and post all day long until you cannot anymore lol But let me tell ya, the most embarrassing thing in the world is when the old ladies leave you on read. They give me advice on how to make bread and then they see the tag and ghost me hahah  Although, on the plus side I will definitely be used to that when I go home! It will be real hard to hurt my feelings.

I did get to meet an awesome guy through Facebook who lives in Peru! We had a voice call where we were just going to read our scriptures together when next thing I know He is going off with a million questions which me with my terrible Spanish and my only English companion could simply not answer. So, I shot up a prayer and called the Zone leaders who I had luckily caught right before they had a lesson and they helped me so much! They were able to help me teach an awesome lesson and I have actually taught him another time since then! Definitely a tender mercy haha!

Anyways, on the note of Spanish we have transfers this week and I got exciting news! I am staying in Hood River for another transfer but I get a new companion and we will be taking over the Spanish area! I am SO excited and simultaneously so nervous! So feel free to send up prayers for the gift of tongues and that I will somehow be able to speak Spanish this week lol! I am nervous but I know that God will be there helping me along the way! I am so excited for this new adventure and even more excited for this New Year! I know it will be a great one!

I love you all so much! I hope you have an amazing week and as always, I love hearing from you and am so grateful for all of your love, letters, support, and prayers. Keep being amazing and never forget how much God loves you!
